I can remember walking down the street, saying my name over & over, until all of a sudden, it didn't sound like my name anymore. It didn't even sound like a word at all & then I stopped & the silence rushed in & whispered words that sounded more like my real name & I smiled & thought to myself how surprised my parents would be when they found out what a mistake they had made.

I used to think people who changed their names were just being pretentious and making life difficult for those who knew them. What's in a name after all, right? Just another external marker of identity, really should not matter one way or the other, should it?
It may be just a way of trying to create an impression of being a certain type of person. But there is another perspective that I see now. Who else in this world would know what your name is, better than yourself? And sometimes you can tell that the old name has a meaning you no longer associate with. And you notice that the name has changed, and the obvious thing is to leave the old one behind. Why whould you be stuck with the same name all your life?

Nika - Hey Pat from the movie night at People's. I have been out of town (and going again soon) and negligent in checking my blog...and setting up another movie night. It won't probably be until early July or late June at earliest. It won't be at People's anymore, so I am looking for another venue (probably Rogue Ale's House on NW Flanders). Thanks for your note. I'll get in touch soon. Still want to do "There Will Be Blood" as well.
